The US state of Maine appears regularly and is often ranked highly in many lists such as ‘America’s most beautiful states’ & ‘best states to live in America’, we can’t argue with that, apart from it being one of the greenest states there are many other reasons why we think it is a special place …

Maine - nicknamed ‘The Pine State’ because of the extensive number of pine forests covering the area, is situated in the New England region of the north-eastern United States. Maine is rich in cultural heritage & tradition and has many art galleries & museums. It is known for its cold winters and beautiful summers, it's dramatic mountainous landscape and spectacular coast; historic lighthouses, lakes, harbors, marinas & sandy beaches; Acadia National Park on the coastline; it's small towns & pretty streets with an eclectic mix of hotels & guest-houses, independent shops & restaurants. Maine is especially known both nationally and internationally for its high-quality lobster and other seafood, and the wild blueberries the state produces.

Here is a selection of the places we love in Maine

Migis Lodge

Set in its own extensive grounds on Sebago Lake in South Casco, Maine, the family-owned, family-run & family-oriented Migis Lodge offers guests an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in a beautiful lakeside setting. Accommodation is a choice of guestrooms at the main lodge or cottages of varying sizes, all are spacious, traditional and individually styled with classic furniture, stone fireplaces, big comfortable beds dressed in handmade quilts, and your own private balcony or terrace with views of the lake and spectacular sunsets.

Migis Lodge is an American Plan Resort, so meals and activities are included in the price. The hosts and their staff are friendly & charming and they welcome families, couples and individuals with equal warmth – there are always returning guests at Migis Lodge, some who have been every year for many years. Dinner is a special occasion, a kind of social event where dress-code is smart wear - men and older boys wear collared shirt & jacket and women dress smartly, the food is excellent, local & fresh.

There are lots of family, group or solo activities to partake in - the wellness center offers everything from relaxing Tai Chi to the more energetic Zumba. Outdoor activities are plentiful and centered mainly at the lake, they include boating, water sports, (the use of canoes, kayaks etc are free of charge) tennis at the lakeside courts, hiking and cycling. A children’s adventure club gives children (and parents) their own space, keeps them entertained and is a great place for them to make friends. Migis Lodge provides its guests with a wonderful enjoyable vacation experience in lovely natural surroundings, and in a pleasant & harmonious atmosphere. It is almost reminiscent of the ‘Kellerman Resort’ in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing
