The worlds natural resources are being over-consumed by today’s throw-away society. Strongly influenced by consumerism and cheap mass marketing from fast fashion retailers, many of us have become blasé about the origin of our latest fashion purchase. We tend not to think about how or where it was made; but even now in the 21st century there are still people around the world who work in the production of fashion goods, and the cultivation of cotton and other raw fibres who are treated unfairly. Sometimes, the conditions they have to work in are appalling and they might get paid only a pittance.
The strain on our natural resources by the fast fashion trend is devastating! Just the sheer volume of water used to manufacture clothes is phenomenal! For example, to make one single T-shirt it takes 2,700 litres of water – that really is quite outrageous. There is also the pollution generated by this trend to consider; after oil, the fashion industry is said to be the 2nd largest polluter in the world and is partially responsible for inflicting some of the irreversible damage on our planet.
There is some good news however…
There are fashion brands that consider all of the above factors and want to make a difference, these companies are committed to producing Organic, Fairtrade, Eco-friendly & Sustainable clothing and accessories.
